My family owns a ranch in Utah. During the summer, we visited it, and while there we noticed it was quite windy. I had a brainstorm that windmills would be good the mountains around there if it was always so windy. I didn't think much of it until the "boardmembers", a group of relatives who take care of and manage the ranch, started talking about the land throughout the ranch. The talk got to the Bay Family land (my side of the family), and I mentioned that we could get rid of the gas generator and put up one or two windmills to power the ranch. My grandma charged me with researching the possibility.

My Reflection

Although my research question has held up, I've been getting very frusterated with it. I can't find enough information specific to my area, but I'm confident that i will be able to get it done. I am still trying to look for some more secondary resources. I want to find more information on why wind energy is good, and what I need to do in relation to contacting the power company in order to get power lines up the mountain. I find that researching can be very difficult depending on what you're looking for. I don't think I'm even close to writing my paper, I have information, but it isn't enough to eneable me to write a 5-6 paragraph paper.

EDIT: I might actually be able to do it!

For a primary resource, I would like to try and contact some government officials in Utah to discuss my project. I would like to know what their policy on wind energy is (I've heard that they will pay for electricity from it), and what I have to do to get a windmill on our ranch. The problem I have discovered, once again, is not being able to find the right resources. I am looking for information specific to Utah and private ownership. I think the school should pay for a flight out to Utah. so I could go and have some actual interaction with the people I need to contact. IF YOU FIND ANYTHING FOR ME, I'LL GIVE YOU A COOKIE!

...I have discovered it to be Ginormossaul problem in finding exactly what I'm looking for. I have found how Windmills work, and all these government sites that tell how good it is, but I haven't found anything telling me how much the cost differs from other types of alternate energy, or how the gain I would get from using it.
